About:
We opened Lawrence in 2010, in a corner spot across the road from Sparrow, the bar where our story started two years before. The goal was to offer creative, thoughtful and honest cooking alongside a curated beer and wine list, in an elegant but informal setting – and to support responsible local agriculture in the process.
In 2013, we opened Boucherie Lawrence a few doors north of the restaurant. We source meat and vegetables from small Quebec farms, and grocery goods from local artisans and producers. We produce a wide assortment of deli meats, charcuterie, bread, and ready-to-cook meals. We are dedicated to an ethical approach to animal welfare, the environment, and the well-being of those producing the food on our plates
The next piece of the puzzle opened in 2016: larrys is a small and bustling all day-all evening-cafe-restaurant-wine bar-breakfast-joint-next-door, showcasing many of Lawrence’s endeavours in a more casual and pared down manner.
Marc Cohen- Chef / Co-Owner
Marc graduated University College London with a degree in mathematics and immediately put it to good use in kitchens across London, including formative periods at Magdalen and Gordon Ramsay’s The Narrow. Long, drawn out lunches at St John Bread and Wine were an equal influence, and Fergus Henderson was his idol way before it became cool in North America. Marc moved to Montreal in 2008 and worked at Club Chasse et Pêche before leaving for Sparrow, and then opening Lawrence and larrys.
Sefi Amir- General Manager / Co-Owner
Sefi graduated Concordia University in Fine Arts and moved to London to complete her master’s at Central Saint Martin’s. Having waited tables through school (Gordon Ramsay’s The Narrow, Sparrow) she decided to trade in the financial struggles of being an artist for the financial struggles of owning a small business in Quebec. She’s equally likely to be found behind the counter at the butcher shop, in the dining room at Lawrence or larrys, or sleeves rolled up fixing blocked drains in the basement. She remains the Lawrence in-house artist and her work can be found on much of our promotional material. (See above!)
